Why Passing All Test Cases On Your Coding Assessment Is Not Enough

In 2020 while searching for full-time opportunities, I did a coding assessment for a company and passed all the test cases. I was excited and began preparing for their technical interview, but that opportunity never came. Instead, I received a rejection email, and I couldn’t understand why and how something like that could happen. Most candidates also expect to not hear back from the company when they don’t pass all the test cases, and while this is usually the case, it is not always true. Read about that here. These are some of the reasons people have been given, but companies can choose to move forward with a candidate or reject a candidate for a plethora of reasons. Sometimes, interviewers and recruiters don’t respond to questions concerning why a candidate did not advance to the next stage in the interviewing process, so a candidate might never know the exact reason(s) they didn’t advance.

Many people practice with Leetcode, Hackerrank and the likes of these two services so that they can become familiar with the type of questions that companies ask on coding assessment, but some people do not focus on the efficiency of their code.
