As an African from an average household, finance and wealth creation were not something that was discussed in my home growing up. Education was and is important and it continues to be a hot topic in discussions, but education of finance wasn’t and still isn’t. I can boldly say that is the reality for a lot of African children in and out of Africa. This could be due to the fact that a lot of our parents work meager paying jobs to make ends meet and to give me a great future and do not know about the things that I am about to talk about themselves. I know this was true for my dad but I am grateful that he put his dreams on hold so that I could live out my dreams!
Just like a lot of African kids and high schoolers in general, my decision-making when it came to career choice was partially centered around which career would make me money, because I wanted to be rich in the future, and I still do. I remember times and seasons when dropshipping was a buzzword that I knew nothing about, one that I didn’t bother to research. I wanted to be rich, but I had no interest in learning about it. Perhaps I thought I was going to get a job and that job was going to make me rich after college.
